CALL FOR MATERIAL

Chicka's story

Jonathan Bogais and Rhonda Dixon-Grovenor are co-researching and co-authoring the story of Rhonda’s dad, Charles “Chicka” Dixon. Many people knew Chicka and have stories to tell. We are looking for material, photos, media clips, or stories that may be relevant. Uncle Chicka (who wanted this story to be told), Rhonda, the family and Jonathan greatly appreciate the help you can give with additional material. Contributions will be acknowledged. About this site

The Redfern Aboriginal Housing Company (AHC) was set up in 1973 as the first urban Aboriginal community housing provider, purchasing the houses on the Block using grant money.

This site documents stories and photographs about the Block, and surrounding Redfern that are not often known to the community at large. You will find varying 'voices' and experiences under Oral history, and there are photos and videos that display the vibrant community spirit in Redfern and showcase achievements that do not necessarily make headlines. Some of the people you will encounter are quiet achievers, unsung heroes or simply ordinary members of  the community.

Who are we?

Redfern Residents for Reconciliation [RRR] is a small group dedicated to the process of reconciliation, healing, restoring rights and reducing racism. It is a mixture of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. Interviewing started in 2002, so that information about this vital, dynamic and diverse community could reach the general public. It was funded by Australia Council for the Arts. The original interviewers were Anael, Kaylene Simon and Sr Pat Ormesher. Deborah Wall set up the website to publish the interviews and it was launched in February 2007.

Message to the Redfern community

When the website was launched, it was handed back over to the Aboriginal community. RRR was  happy to help get it started, but it is your history, your story. Please get in touch and have your say. If you would like to join the editorial committee use the feedback form below.

Contributions are invited - If you know any names of people in photos, have photos or stories you would like to share, or would like to do some interviewing ....

Anybody can add things to this website, it's yours.

Warning: Visitors to this site may find images of people who have passed away.

Disclaimer: The stories that appear on this website are those of the interviewees. We can neither endorse nor take responsibility for the views expressed by them.
